A New Power Plant?

We have read articles supporting and criticizing the Desert Rock Energy Project. The plan is to build a new coal-fired power plant on the Navajo Reservation in Northwest New Mexico. Do you think the project should be carried out? Please write an opinion statement and support your opinion with details, reasons, and examples.

I think that the idea for this project is very good. One of the reasons is because having more electricity will reduce the price for it, also will provide more jobs for families who need them.
Thinking that now the experts on this projects have more information and experienses that will help them to fix problems that they have found before.

I agreed with the develoment or progress for some area but with less damage for the nature,in that case for Desert ROCK.
One of my questions is why we have to destroy the nature if we have to live forever in the world, one generation after another. I think any way all kind of progess for this or some area its good specialy in this time when the economy its bad, but not for that reason we have to destroy everything.
I know the tecnology going every day improoven but I hope what all projects around the world have to think in the global warming. So for this reason I want that project for the Desert Rock went up in smoke because I know all kind the projectc about coal its going make a lot contamination.

Another big business in our house destroying non renuables resurces ,this project is headed in a wrong direction. Everybody knows, because the history, then this kind of technology doesn't work any more. A lot of this companies didn't made a good results. This company said than this project is clean for the enviroment. Using filter sistem reduce the enviroment impact, but my question is: where all this filters with dirt goes?
I think the people there still are giong to be very sick doesn't matter what the company said.
The desert's caracteristic is the SUN, so why not use that? it's a real and clean energy and that its the way to preserv the Navajo culture with out our intervention.
They respect mother nature! we wont. I'm sorry!!

You all make very good arguments. I especially enjoyed the fact that you have differing opinions and different reasons to support your opinions. You are very good critical thinkers and I can see your writing improve all the time.

Have all of you been to the Navajo Reservation or travelled through that area? What were your impressions? How would it be different with this new power plant?

Charlie is submitting this for Jessica, whose account won't open.

The idea of the Desert Rock is based in the needed of some people who don't have a job thinks the plant is very important to the comunity. But the people who think abaut the enviroment this is a most important thing in the world.
my opinion is it will provide more jobs now, but in the future the
we won't even have the helth we need to work.

I agree with the modernization and technology, but I think, as well, we need to think more about our planet, to take care and find places more appropriates to build something like that.

The construction of a power plant in New Mexico can provide jobs for many people, but the government would think about natural resources energy that doesn't affect the environment.

I think to myself it is a great idea for a new plant. We need more power and projects for people that need jobs and wise men and woman who are ready to work and help the world to fix the problems we have in life.

Hello, im am Virgil and i'm a student in a GED class in colorado springs,CO ,it seems like you have quit an ultamatum on your hands, I would say no to the powerplant, being built inless it is apsolutly in dier need of such, but the power plant should not be built on the reservation it is not there land to build on.
