Tell us about your country

There were six students in class on Monday, and each student was from a different country. Including myself, we represented 7 countries. That evening, I was thinking about how amazing it is to work with people from so many far away places, each place with its own sights, smells, tastes, customs, traditions, memories, etc. I would love to visit each of those countries and see what life is like there.

I wonder what each of you misses most about the country where you are from. I also wonder what you like most about your current home in the United States. Please post a comment explaining one thing you miss about your native country and one thing you like about the US. Try to include a lot of details so that we can understand your experiences better.

One thing I really miss about my country is the warm weather all the time. In my country we can find any kind of weather, but I think the weather of my native area or department is most warm all the time. So that is good because I can ride my bike. I can run almost every day and the humidity is perfect. I love see everyday the sun bright.

About United States, I really like the opportunities, because I can find work easy, and in some parts I can make my schedule. So that is good because I can use my time in other things like go to my school. That is very important, because I can learn a lot about other culture, and is obvious about other language. I can work in different companies in at same day because here it’s possible to work for hours. I like spend my free time riding my bike so that its so nice because in the United State is really safe ride bikes.

Well I have a lot a things the I miss from my country, but one of the things the I really miss are my sisters.
I miss my sisters so much because we were one person ,so when we put the surfboards in the top of car and took off for a week to one of the best places in the world for surfing, and them we took the cooler out side and started drinking the best beer in Costa Rica and them we started surfing the best ways so when we are finished , we started a fire in the beach and put good music and started to dance, smilying so much that my mouth hearts.
but anyway we have so much fun together doing bad things and good things. they have so much love for everybody and they are fun to be around. My best memories are when I started working in my own bar and me and my sisters worked with me.so all the gays were looking at us and saying what up ladies?

1 - I miss the Brazilian food especially been and meat, because the preparation is different in others country!
My mom cooks very well, we put in the black beans, pork legs
, bacon, sausage, cilantro, onions, with a especial flour, because it's make with cassava, this kind of flour, I mind just exist in Brazil, but some neighbors country import it. Then need to cook a long time, but the result is great. I tried to do it, but not the same like my mom.

2 - I like the organization of this country! Especially in Durango that is a small city is so clean, organized, the people respect the laws. In some countries of South America and in the mine too, I couldn’t see it! A good example was in the “Snow down”, after the parade in few minutes there were trucks cleaning all the city, in few minutes was everything cleaned, like nothing was happening before.

Hey Charlie!

The only thing that I miss of my country is my friends. You know you can call them and say, “Hey what up bro... Let’s get together tonight to talk or play football or just drink a 6 pack and fix the world!” My best friend is Pancho or how we call him ‘‘Jaiva’’ he is just the best person that I met in my life. He is a musician like and he plays drums. He’s a fanny guy, so when we are together it's no hope to be serious. Every body loves be on a party with us singing and playing guitar, making everybody laughing. I think we are pretty similar people. We are really brothers.
We played in the band with Pedro. He’s a forest engineer, and he plays the bass guitar. When he plays the bass, the world stops for a moment. He never gives up and he is a very good friend of mine. When we played together was like a long jam trip. We became absorb by the music. Sometimes we played for hours and when we stopped we felt like we started just 2 minutes ago, and I miss that!
Some times letter we started a BBQ and the rest of my friend came to enjoin us. They bring beers and somebody always said “Benja, bring your guitar and let's sing'' or some times I just brought the guitar there and everybody said'' huuuuuuuuu'', I just love that. The people there are so spontaneous. They love sing songs all together. You can't understand anything, but it's so fun. That I miss of my country, Chile.

And the best of this country is the quality of people. Here, I mean Durango, Colorado, Here people are so friendly. I love said HI on the streets with people then I never met before. Everybody walk with they dogs, and here people appreciate and take care nature, I feel in home here. I am the same kind of person, and I really love to protect the mother earth.

About United States, I like the school for my children’s. But another thing that I like from America is that, when people do something bad they pay for.

I thought you guys would have some great and varied things to say about your native countries, and I wasn't disappointed when I read your comments. Even though I know you all miss certain things about the places you are from, I'm glad that there are also things that you appreciate about the United States and the town we live in. I hope I have the opportunity to visit the countries you are from some day.

So today March 23, 2009 is my last English class in the Durango Education Center , I don’t know what I do, I hate farewell. I’m remember the first time that I leave home to travel to Colombia like 2 years ago, I was so exited with my first international trip, was hard to say good bye to my parents, but now is different because I know that my home is and always will be my home, so I can came back all the time, but here I can’t predict it depends a lot things.
So now I want to say that was a pleasure to study here, thanks for the opportunity to do part of this nice project that help the people study the native language of this country.
Thanks my dear teacher Charlie and my classmates I learned a lot with you, not just English but a little about your histories of life.
I wait for you in Brazil.

One of the things that i miss about my country,is freedom, is always hard when you came with lots of dreams, and what you get is totally different, and of course I miss my family, friends and the fun places around Mexico.
From the United States, I like the opportunities, that I did not have in my country. I like to be able to learn from different cultures, and different people. And the most important thing is that I found my other half here.
